Abstract: |
|
To address global climate change, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology has emerged as a critical approach for mitigating CO2 emissions. Among various post-combustion CO2 capture technologies, membrane separation is regarded as one of the most promising candidates owing to its advantages of low energy consumption, operational flexibility, and environmental benignity. Polyvinylamine (PVAm) represents a facilitated transport membrane material exhibiting exceptional CO2 separation performance, wherein the abundant primary amine groups on its molecular chains can engage in reversible chemical reactions with CO2, thereby enabling highly selective CO2 separation. Nevertheless, the transition of polyvinylamine membranes from laboratory-scale development to industrial implementation confronts several critical bottlenecks, including complex preparation parameters and poor consistency in scalable manufacturing. Specifically, regarding PVAm synthesis, polymerization and hydrolysis process parameters directly govern the molecular weight and degree of hydrolysis, which subsequently determine membrane crystallinity and effective carrier content, thereby influencing CO2 separation performance. Regarding membrane fabrication, the selection of coating methodologies and fluctuations in ambient conditions during membrane preparation lead to non-uniform microstructural characteristics and interfacial properties of the separation layer, constituting the core factors constraining the performance stability of large-area membrane modules. In view of this, this paper systematically reviews research progress on the influence of PVAm CO2 gas separation membrane preparation methods on membrane structure and performance, with particular emphasis on elucidating how process parameters during PVAm synthesis and fabrication conditions during membrane casting affect CO2 gas separation performance. Furthermore, advances achieved by domestic and international research teams in the development of continuous manufacturing processes are summarized, and future research directions for PVAm membranes are prospected. |
