|
The technical feasibility of the production of GABA from its potassium salt by means of bipolar membrane electrodialysis(BMED) method is investigated. By using a three-compartment BMED, GABA and KOH from its salt can be produced. The results show that, after BMED, GABA solution and up to 2.5% KOH can be obtained. When the GABA solution is cooled down, GABA crystal can be collected. The purity of GABA can exceed 99%. And the average electric current efficiency of the process is above 60%, the electric energy consumption is approximately 2kWh per kg of GABA. |
