Cross-linked PVA/PSSA/Na-MMT (poly(vinyl alcohol) /poly(styrene sulfonic acid) /Na-montmorillonite) composite proton exchange membranes were prepared by blending PVA, PSSA and MMT in solution using GA as crosslinking agent. Infrared spectrum (IR) proves that PVA cross-linked with PSSA by esterification between sulfonic acid groups and hydroxyl groups. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) shows the composite membrane has good thermal resistance. The MMT has been uniformly dispersed in the composite membrane observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The glutaraldehyde (GA) and Na-montmorillonite ( Na-MMT) lower water uptake and improve dimensional stability for the composite membranes. Permeability of VO2+ of blend membrane which contains 15%PSSA and 3%Na-MMT achieve 1.58×10-6 / cm2•min-1. The coulombic efficiency of single VRB reaches 43.7%. |
