Abstract: |
|
Forward osmosis (FO) process is driven by the osmotic pressure differential across a semipermeable membrane. The structural parameter of the FO membrane is critical in determining mass transfer resistance and, eventually, the performance of the corresponding membrane. Herein the research progress is reported on the tuning of membrane structural parameter of thin film composite membranes. Two approaches are reported namely, controlling the wettability of PSf by blending with PVP, and tuning the PSf pore structure via co-casting. Results demonstrated that both approaches have yielded membranes with reduced S values of the support layers and consequently better TFC FO membranes than purely PSf based TFC membranes or HTI CTA membranes. |
