Solute rentention method is widely used for determining the ultrafitration membrane separation performance. This study investigates the accuracy of MWCO (Molecular Weight Cut Off) determined by using different protein molecules. A series of experiments have been carried out to determine protein retention in various conditions (runtime, protein concentration and transmembrane pressure) during filtration through hollow fiber membrane and flat-sheet membrane. The results show the BSA rejection rate increased as the initial concentration increasing, the retention rate changed from 3.5% to 80.7% when initial concentration increased 100mg/L to 1000mg/L. And the MWCO was inaccurate with high concentration of protein molecules. High concentration may cause error of the MWCO test, but low concentration may influence the stability of the test results. With adjusting the concentration to 100-500mg/L and the runtime to 40min, the data of MWCO could be more reliable. |
