Abstract: |

Membrane distillation (MD), as a new desalting technology, can utilize low grade energy. However, large-scale application based on membrane distillation has not been widely used. One of the important reasons is the lack of membrane with good anti-fouling property. Therefore, it is of critical importance to prepare amphiphobic membrane to improve the anti-fouling property. A functional layer was formed on the PVDF membrane surface by using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL). Next, the surface was fluorinated with 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane to obtain amphiphobic membrane. The contact angles of water and oil reached 161.3° and 134.9° respectively, showing obvious superhydrophobic and oleophobic properties. In addition, the amphiphobic membrane still shares good stability under harsh conditions. The long-term direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) experiment shows outstanding comprehensive anti-fouling capacity with higher flux and excellent salt rejection. |
