Abstract:

Polyester composite nanofiltration membranes have received widespread attention due to their stability in organic solvents. The interface polymerization method is commonly used to prepare polyester composite films, and the role of polyphenols as monomers in this polymerization reaction is crucial. This article investigated three types of polyphenols: catechol (CA), 4-methylcatechol (MECA), and 4-tert-butyl-catechol(TECA). They are used as aqueous monomers to react with trimethoyl chloride (TMC) to prepare solvent resistant composite polyester membranes. The prepared membrane was first used to separate the aqueous solution of Brilliant Blue R-250 (BB, 854 Da), and its swelling degree was tested in different organic solvents. Among these threemembranes, MECA-TMC exhibited good separation performance and low swelling degree, therefore, for subsequent research, the prepared membrane NF-MECA had good solvent resistance in tetrahydrofuran, with a retention rate of 98% for BB in a 36 hour experiment and a permeance of 34 L/( m2·h·MPa).
