Abstract:

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), featuring precisely tunable pore sizes, highly ordered channels, and excellent chemical stability, have emerged as promising candidates for next-generation desalination membranes. In this study, TpPa-SO3H was employed as the core material, and by integrating vacuum-assisted filtration with interfacial polymerization, a double-layer COF membrane was successfully constructed on a polysulfone (PSf) substrate. Characterization confirmed the stable deposition of TpPa-SO3H nanosheets and the formation of a continuous and dense separation layer, endowing the membrane with excellent hydrophilicity and strong negative surface charge. The optimized membrane exhibited a water permeance of 24.93 L/(m2·h·MPa) and a Na2SO4 rejection of 93.40%, with stable performance over 72 h. The enhanced desalination performance is attributed to the synergistic effect of size sieving and electrostatic interactions, providing an effective strategy for the development of high-performance COF-based desalination membranes.
