Abstract:

Aromatics and aliphatics coexist in the feed streams of processes including naphtha cracking and crude oil refining. The efficient separation of aromatics and aliphatics can reduce energy consumption levels and improve product added value. Pervaporation (PV), as a novel membrane technology that achieves selective separation based on the differences in dissolution and diffusion rates of components, is not limited by thermodynamic equilibrium. It exhibits prominent advantages such as low energy consumption, high efficiency, and easy integration, especially in the separation of azeotropic and near-azeotropic organic mixtures. In this study, chemically crosslinked polyether block amide (PEBA) membrane materials with a dense separation structure were prepared on a polymer substrate. The chemical properties of crosslinked PEBA membranes were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The physical structures of the crosslinked membranes were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), mechanical tensile tests and swelling experiments. The pervaporation aromatic/aliphatic separation performance of PEBA membranes prepared under different crosslinking conditions was systematically studied. The optimal separation performance was achieved at a crosslinking concentration of 4% (volume fraction) and a crosslinking time of 1 hour, with a permeation flux and separation factor reaching 726 g/(m2·h) and 3.1, respectively. The results can provide innovative design strategies for fabricating high-performance aromatics/aliphatics separation membranes with excellent application stability.
