In the traditional production process of V2O5 via sodium roasting-water leaching and precipitation, the wastewater post precipitation still contains a certain amount of vanadium (Ⅴ) and chromium (Ⅵ) ions. Treating this wastewater is imperative for environmental protection and resource recovery. This study employed a two-compartment cation-exchange membrane electrodialysis technology to treat 150 mL of simulated wastewater containing 250 mg/L vanadium (Ⅴ) ions mixed with 250 mg/L chromium (Ⅵ) ions. The effects of current density, initial feed solution pH, flow rate, and electrodialysis time were systematically investigated. Under the optimal conditions (current density: 15 mA/cm2; initial feed pH: 1.9; flow rate: 25 mL/min; electrodialysis time: 17 h), the separation efficiencies of vanadium and chromium achieved 93.69% and 7.12% respectively, with the separation coefficient of 193.8 and the average energy consumption of merely 0.35 kW·h/g. Extending the electrodialysis to 30 h increased the separation efficiencies of vanadium and chromium to 98.18% and 14.16%, respectively, with the maximum separation coefficient of 327.5 and the average energy consumption of 0.61 kW·h/g. The V2O5 product with the purity of 98.3% was obtained after oxidization, precipitation, filtration and heating of the concentrate solution. These findings indicate that the two-compartment cation exchange membrane electrodialysis technology demonstrates strong potential to separate and recover the wastewater containing vanadium(V) and chromium (Ⅵ) ions. |
